Black Hole / White Hole

http://oolong.co.uk/tor1.htm

If you squeezed all the space out of the universe, all matter /energy would collapse into a very small ,very dense Black Hole
And I don't just mean intergalctic, interstellar ,and interatomic space.
I also mean the space within atoms (wch are also mostly empty space)

Is there a limit to how far matter/energy can be compressed?

the meaning of "devotion"

Loyal to the end: Heart-breaking photo shows Navy SEAL's devoted dog guarding his coffin

This heart-wrenching photo shows how a Navy SEAL’s dog refused to leave his master’s side during an emotional funeral.
Petty Officer Jon Tumilson, 35, killed in the major U.S. helicopter crash in Afghanistan this month, was remembered by around 1,500 mourners.
But it was his Labrador retriever Hawkeye that really captured the public’s emotions in the photo taken by Mr Tumilson’s cousin, Lisa Pembleton.

Jack Layton's last words to Canadians

Posted: Aug 22, 2011 12:30 PM ET

August 20, 2011

Toronto, Ontario

Dear Friends,

Tens of thousands of Canadians have written to me in recent weeks to wish me well. I want to thank each and every one of you for your thoughtful, inspiring and often beautiful notes, cards and gifts. Your spirit and love have lit up my home, my spirit, and my determination.
Unfortunately my treatment has not worked out as I hoped. So I am giving this letter to my partner Olivia to share with you in the circumstance in which I cannot continue.
I recommend that Hull-Aylmer MP Nycole Turmel continue her work as our interim leader until a permanent successor is elected.
I recommend the party hold a leadership vote as early as possible in the New Year, on approximately the same timelines as in 2003, so that our new leader has ample time to reconsolidate our team, renew our party and our program, and move forward towards the next election.
A few additional thoughts:
To other Canadians who are on journeys to defeat cancer and to live their lives, I say this: please don’t be discouraged that my own journey hasn’t gone as well as I had hoped. You must not lose your own hope. Treatments and therapies have never been better in the face of this disease. You have every reason to be optimistic, determined, and focused on the future. My only other advice is to cherish every moment with those you love at every stage of your journey, as I have done this summer.
To the members of my party: we’ve done remarkable things together in the past eight years. It has been a privilege to lead the New Democratic Party and I am most grateful for your confidence, your support, and the endless hours of volunteer commitment you have devoted to our cause. There will be those who will try to persuade you to give up our cause. But that cause is much bigger than any one leader. Answer them by recommitting with energy and determination to our work. Remember our proud history of social justice, universal health care, public pensions and making sure no one is left behind. Let’s continue to move forward. Let’s demonstrate in everything we do in the four years before us that we are ready to serve our beloved Canada as its next government.
To the members of our parliamentary caucus: I have been privileged to work with each and every one of you. Our caucus meetings were always the highlight of my week. It has been my role to ask a great deal from you. And now I am going to do so again. Canadians will be closely watching you in the months to come. Colleagues, I know you will make the tens of thousands of members of our party proud of you by demonstrating the same seamless teamwork and solidarity that has earned us the confidence of millions of Canadians in the recent election.
To my fellow Quebecers: On May 2nd, you made an historic decision. You decided that the way to replace Canada’s Conservative federal government with something better was by working together in partnership with progressive-minded Canadians across the country. You made the right decision then; it is still the right decision today; and it will be the right decision right through to the next election, when we will succeed, together. You have elected a superb team of New Democrats to Parliament. They are going to be doing remarkable things in the years to come to make this country better for us all.
To young Canadians: All my life I have worked to make things better. Hope and optimism have defined my political career, and I continue to be hopeful and optimistic about Canada. Young people have been a great source of inspiration for me. I have met and talked with so many of you about your dreams, your frustrations, and your ideas for change. More and more, you are engaging in politics because you want to change things for the better. Many of you have placed your trust in our party. As my time in political life draws to a close I want to share with you my belief in your power to change this country and this world. There are great challenges before you, from the overwhelming nature of climate change to the unfairness of an economy that excludes so many from our collective wealth, and the changes necessary to build a more inclusive and generous Canada. I believe in you. Your energy, your vision, your passion for justice are exactly what this country needs today. You need to be at the heart of our economy, our political life, and our plans for the present and the future.
And finally, to all Canadians: Canada is a great country, one of the hopes of the world. We can be a better one – a country of greater equality, justice, and opportunity. We can build a prosperous economy and a society that shares its benefits more fairly. We can look after our seniors. We can offer better futures for our children. We can do our part to save the world’s environment. We can restore our good name in the world. We can do all of these things because we finally have a party system at the national level where there are real choices; where your vote matters; where working for change can actually bring about change. In the months and years to come, New Democrats will put a compelling new alternative to you. My colleagues in our party are an impressive, committed team. Give them a careful hearing; consider the alternatives; and consider that we can be a better, fairer, more equal country by working together.
Don’t let them tell you it can’t be done.
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair.
So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.

All my very best,
Jack Layton

conversion of spin to linear velocity (and 'vice versa')

According to the theory of relativity
time slows down for any kind of motion including spinning motion

Any rotational motion (RPM) can be converted into it's linear velocity (km/sec) equivalent
if the circumference of the spinning sphere is known.
Thus with each full rotation a linear distance equivalent to the sphere's circumference is traversed.
For example, where the equatorial circumference of a sphere is 6,000 km,
(in one complete revolution it traverses a distance of 6000 km)
If it takes one minute to complete a single revolution, 1 rpm = 6,000 km /60 sec = 100 km /sec

Question:
How fast would this sphere have to spin to attain a linear velocity equal to the speed of light (300,000 km/sec)?
Answer:
A sphere of this circumference (6000 km) ,would need to rotate at
300,000/100 = 3000 rpm = 50 hertz (rps)

..and the smaller the circumference of the sphere ,the faster it would need to spin/rotate.
Thus a sphere rotating at 100 Hz would attaain light velocity if it were 3000 km in circumference
And a sphere  rotating at 1000 Hz  would only need to be 300 km in circumference.

Assuming that no object can spin faster than light speed, ..if the maximum rotational speed of an object is limited by the object's size/circumference ,it should be possible to formulate a mathematical relationship betwween an objects spin velocity (rpm) and it's circumference.
That is, the maximum rotational speed that a sphere can attain (assuming this maximum to be equal to light speed)
depends upon the circumference of the sphere!
How would this translate into the quantum realm of spinning subatomic particles?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The following is from Wikipedia:

the fastest  spinning pulsar currently known, spins at  716 times a second.[5][6]

Current theories of neutron star structure and evolution predict that pulsars would break apart if they spun at a rate of ~1500 rotations per second or more,[7][8] and that at a rate of above about 1000 rotations per second they would lose energy by gravitational radiation faster than the accretion process would speed them up.[9]
However, in early 2007 data from the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer and INTEGRAL spacecraft discovered a neutron star XTE J1739-285 rotating at 1122 Hz.[10] The result is not statistically significant, with a significance level of only 3 sigma. Therefore, while it is an interesting candidate for further observations, current results are inconclusive. Still, it is believed that gravitational radiation plays a role in slowing the rate of rotation. Furthermore, one X-ray pulsar that spins at 599 revolutions per second, IGR J00291 plus 5934|IGR J00291+5934, is a prime candidate for helping detect such waves in the future (most such X-ray pulsars only spin at around 300 rotations per second).

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

According to Newton's First law:
The velocity of a body remains constant unless the body is acted upon by an external force
This means that to increase the rate of motion of an object requires an input of energy.
This energy input is stored as the sum of the objects mass (potential energy) and it's kinetic energy (energy of rotational and translational motion)
This is why the mass/energy (E=mc^2) of an object increases as it's rate of motion increases (upto the speed of light)

Light velocity ("C") is a fixed ratio between space and time.
This fixed ratio (d/t) is 300,000 km/second.
In order to maintain this ratio,.. as space expands, clocks must run faster.
That is the flow of time must speed up.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The conservation of angular momentum is a corollary of  Newton's First Law
angular momentum is sometimes described as the rotational analog of linear momentum.
the increase in rotational speed of a spinning figure skater as the skater's arms are contracted is a consequence of conservation of angular momentum. The very high rotational rates of neutron stars can also be explained in terms of angular momentum conservation

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
It seems that all objects possessing mass from subatomic patricles to the universe itself ,possess spin or rotational velocity
As gravity compresses matter/energy into a smaller volume (denser core) it also increases the rate of spin of the object.
When an object such as a flywheel or a subatomic particle such as a proton spins, it serves as  a reservoir of (kinetic) energy. The higher the velocity or rate of spin, the more energy it contains.
Much of the energy contained/confined  within nucleons is in this form.
When referring to a particle being at rest  (meaning no linear velocity) this does not exclude it's rotational velocity/motion.

the "entitlement" mentality

The upper socio-economic class (the aristocracy) in America has a sense of entitlement.
They feel they have a natural and God-given right to enjoy material prosperity at the expense of the lower classes.
In a society that espouses the value of  "equality" ,it seems that some are more equal and more deserving than others.  (see,"the preservation of privilege" and  "economic inequality"),

In the meantime, the working class faces the harsh realities of unemployment, poverty, foreclosure, and destitution.
Without work they have no opportunity and no hope of bettering their condition.
For them the American Dream is a mirage --something beyond reach.

They must live the American Reality!

It's called "paying back"!!

Republicans--aren't these the guys who willingly send their children to war to defend and advance the interests of their country?

Why then would they begrudge a measly 5% increase in their taxes if doing so would save their country,(and save their children from inheriting and  having to pay off their debt)?
Are they sincere patriots or hypocrites?
If they sincerely wanted to perform a valuable service to their country ,  they would step up  voluntarily and joyfully hand over an additional 5% tax...and not think it  a burden to be fought against with tooth and claw.
Why don't they put their money where their mouth is!

Stop coddling the super-rich: Buffett

On Monday August 15, 2011, 9:05 am EDT

BANGALORE (Reuters) -

Billionaire Warren Buffett urged U.S. lawmakers to raise taxes on the country's super-rich to help cut the budget deficit, saying such a move will not hurt investments.
"My friends and I have been coddled long enough by a billionaire-friendly Congress. It's time for our government to get serious about shared sacrifice," The 80-year-old "Oracle of Omaha" wrote in an opinion article in The New York Times.
Buffett, one of the world's richest men and chairman of conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway Inc , said his federal tax bill last year was $6,938,744.
"That sounds like a lot of money. But what I paid was only 17.4 percent of my taxable income - and that's actually a lower percentage than was paid by any of the other 20 people in our office. Their tax burdens ranged from 33 percent to 41 percent and averaged 36 percent," he said.
Lawmakers engaged in a partisan battle over spending and taxes for more than three months before agreeing on August 2 to raise the $14.3 trillion U.S. debt ceiling, avoiding a U.S. default.
"Americans are rapidly losing faith in the ability of Congress to deal with our country's fiscal problems. Only action that is immediate, real and very substantial will prevent that doubt from morphing into hopelessness," Buffett said.
Buffett said higher taxes for the rich will not discourage investment.
"I have worked with investors for 60 years and I have yet to see anyone - not even when capital gains rates were 39.9 percent in 1976-77 - shy away from a sensible investment because of the tax rate on the potential gain," he said
"People invest to make money, and potential taxes have never scared them off."

Anger explodes upon the streets of the world

Breakdown in law and order... as the social contract crumbles

As the gap between the "haves" and the "have nots" keeps growing, the dispossessed will become increasingly alienated, disaffected and discontented. (see "class warfare")
Those who do not feel they receive a fair share of the benefits of  the economy will take their bitterness and their anger to the streets to be expressed in rioting, looting, and other violent and lawless  behavior.
Economically marginalized people will rise up and demand their equal rights!
As life becomes more difficult people are driven to lawlessness and predation as a desperate last resort in order to survive. The disadvantaged simply resort to taking what they want without respect for the l;aw.
When the unemployed /dispossesed lose their sense of belonging they abandon their loyalty to the state and it's laws who they perceive as responsible for their deprived condition. They will take out their anger against the authorities and even against the infrastructure. (remember,we do not destroy what we cherish).

Is anger and civil disobediance a valid response to perceived injustice?
Quelling violence (and the breakdown of the social order)by whatever means necessary
How does the state restore confidence in the legitimacy of its authority ?
How to achieve compliance with the rule of law and restore social order?

Are we going to deal with the underlying causes of the breakdown in social order (lawlessness, criminality),by reducing the gap between the "haves" and the "have nots" through  a more equitable redistribution of wealth, (by creating a truely "egalitarian society")... or are we just going to use the police and the army to suppress the rioters,  and build more prisons (criminalizing the marginal members of society) to contain them?
If we do not assist these people (the "lost generation") to become full participants and contributing members of society by providing them with educational and employment oportunities, this social problem will surely escalate!

robbing the poor to feed the rich--the American way

"Too little; too late!"

US politicians temporarily avert economic disaster by agreeing to a compromise plan to address? the "debt crisis" .

Necessary tax increases delayed again ...and the debt continues to grow(like a ticking time bomb)!

The tough decisions are kicked into the future.
The cuts in government services/spending will mostly affect the middle class and the poor.
There is no equitably-shared sacrifice here!
There are no increased taxes on the wealthy and on big corporation.
The banksters  got bailouts (instead of prison sentences),and the top 1% of wealthiest Americans (the billionaires) still are not required to pay their fair share.
Why should the working class exclusively bear the cost of paying down the debt?!

How long will the people tolerate such injustice and betrayal!

To a great extent, the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy are responsible for America's  enormous debt, and extending them sure won't help!

As long as the "debt ceiling" keeps rising and new money keeps coming in ..."the Ponzi scheme" keeps turning.

But the facade is cracking--when creditors lose confidence,  the inevitable crash will occur ...

and the "Great American Fraud" will be over!

Playing "chicken" with default

The global economy is being held captive by Washington politics.
US politicians are so embroiled in partisan squabbling , they can't see past their own self-serving party interests. They can't get their act together.
There is no credible plan to pay off the 14 trillion dollar debt!
All this places into serious doubt the willingness of Washington politicians(leaders?)
to subordinate their selfish party interests to make the necessary decisions to reduce the debt and put the country's financial house in order.
There is no willingness  to resolve the underlying problem wch is "too much debt"!
Raising the debt ceiling merely delays the inevitable ...and allows the US gov't. to go deeper into debt!

The tipping point!

Global debt crisis

Raising the "debt ceiling" is a temporary, short term, stop-gap measure .
It allows the US to continue spending while deferring payment....thereby increasing it's debt!
It by no means addresses the need to pay off it's crushing debt load and put the country's fiscal house in order!

(You cannot pay off a debt by going deeper into debt!)
This can only be done by cutting spending/services and increasing taxes.
Decreasing consumer and government spending will have a depressing effect on the national economy ,and will precipitate a global recession.

The next generation will face a bleak future  of high taxes and reduced services, low pay, squeezed standard of living, and no pensions at retirement !

As for Canada not being affected:
The US is Canada's biggest trade partner.
70% of all Canada's exports go to the US.
When the US goes down ,it will  take everyone with it! (just as it did in 2008)

enriching private corporations through tax breaks and public subsidies

The bailout of failing private (financial) corporations with public money is a violation of "free market" principles .
The use of taxpayer money to shore up failed financial institutions is socialism par excelence!
Government takeover of the banking system is a form of expropriation and nationalization--the very opposite of privatization and deregulation.
When billionaire banksters become welfare recipients and enrich themselves on the backs of the working class , the public understandably becomes  enraged with both the bankers and politicians (who are accomplices in this crime) ,and demands retribution against those who by their greed and irresponsible behavior  have precipitated the global economic meltdown.
The pain of the  recession must be shared more equitably.
The rich who benefited disproportionally during the boom times must now pay their fair share!

If human behavior did not require "regulation" (if they could regulate their own behavior)...there would be no need for laws or police (or law makers!!)!
The financial sectors cry for deregulation is a cry for placing the fox in charge of the chicken coop.
Without enforcable regulations they can do as they please, and are answerable to no one
Deregulation means doing away with the rule of law...and we've just seen what happens when the "rule of law" does not exist!

In their minds "regulation" is socialism ,because it constrains their freedom of behavior.
The libertarian impulse in America regards all government action as an encroachment upon individual freedom.
Government regulations  simply get in the way of unmitigated greed-- so they can act without any consideration for the public good --and this is just what is happening in the US now.
Any infringement on a corporation's "right to profit" (even at the expense of the public good)
is denounced and vilified as "socialism".

If  "regulation" (of individual and corporate behaviour) is not the role of government,..  what might that be?!

In, Lament for a Nation, Grant states
"Yet what is socialism if it is not the use of government
to restrain greed in the name of the social good"
