  1. The conservatives can teach tyrants how to gain power through corruption.
No need to stuff ballotboxes...the same can be achieved electronically!

  4. “Information is power. The less control the government has over the flow of information, the less control it can exert over its citizens"--Stephen Harper

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/lawrence-martin/a-blood-feud-beyond-ballots/article2359436/

...on information flows, the Harper government is widely viewed as one of Canada’s most restrictive. Just last week, the journal Nature accused the government of muzzling the science community.

The battles against gag laws by Mr. Harper, who recently lifted the law on the broadcasting of election results, cost the Citizens Coalition more than $1-million in legal fees. In respect to the “in and out” scheme, the RCMP raided Conservative offices in 2008, and the party sued Elections Canada. Ultimately, the party pleaded guilty to overspending during the 2006 campaign.

In his 2001 letter, Mr. Harper accused Elections Canada of being “out of control.” The question today, as the robo-call scandal continues, is whether it’s his own party members who are out of control.

  5. the aquisition of power:

Election campaigns are all about manipulating the voter to vote in one's favor in order to obtain a desired election result (i.e. Power).

Question is ,"what are the limits of "acceptable" or ethical manipulation methods?"

Perhaps there are no ethical constraints in the game of politics!

  6. wben people steal others' rigbt to vote throuvh trickery...
it undermines confidence in the integrity of the elec toral
process and invalidates the outcome of the election.
When such electoral fraud is exposed, the election result should be declared invalid and the election should be redone.

    1. One of the core tenets of democracy is an honest electoral system where people's vote cannot be unduely influenced by wealth.
All these "dirty tricks" corrupt and undermine the integrity of the electoral process--thereby
      making a travesty of democracy!

  8. This is a routine part of the game of politics.

It is the role of political strategists to manipulate voters in order to gain and maintain power.

Machiavellian strategems are usually kept secret ,but every so often they are "leaked" and exposed to public view.

For example, BC Liberal tactic to win the ethnic vote:

But at least they got caught before they could enact their deception!

    1. You're right! They didn't have to steal the election;
they simply bought their way into power!!

    2. If you can buy what you want, you don't have to lie, cheat, steal, or resort to deceit to get it....
But that kind of buying power is usually not acquired honestly!

  14. Is Bill C-23 (the so-called "Fair Elections Act")an attempt to tilt the playing field in favour of the Conservatives?

Conservatives again seek to influence the outcome of the election by passing election changes wch will most likely supress the vote of seniors, students, aboriginals, and the homeless:

  15. More like: "Voter Suppression Act"!

The conservatives seek to make it more difficult for the marginal members of society to cast a ballot...
because they know that the disenfranchized will not vote conservative.

  17. "Pork barrel politics":

The federal tories are up to the same strategies again. This is the party convicted of influencing elections by overspending...so they get around this problem by dropping the writ early and extending the lenght of the campaign at taxpayers expense.
They have more money than the other parties so a longer campaign is to their advantage because they can outspend the rest.
To top it off they send out millions to key constituencies in an effort. to buy votes. These pre-election funding announcements have the clear purpose of buying votes
